Combining the traditional techniques of art and cabinet making, with digital design and metalworking, French designer Erwan Boulloud draws a collection of unique pieces pushing boundaries of furniture manufacturing as sculptural and functional creations. Furniture with an expressive feature, post-industrial look and refine handcraft.
“Beyond its aesthetic success, I feel a work of art is successful in its ability to generate a lineage, this is to me the testimony of its profundity”

Life
Born in France 1973, Erwan Boulloud shares with some of the best designers a common start attending the prestigious Ecole Boulle in Paris. A reference to nurturing a generation of artists, Ecole Boulle provided a young Erwan Boulloud with skills in fine arts, craft and applied arts which will define his career. After his graduation in 1995, he worked as set designer for collections at some of the greatest Parisian arts institutions such as the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (le CNAM) and for museums like The Louvre and Museum of Natural History in Paris.
With a strong know-how from his days at Ecole Boulle, he started collaborating with highly esteemed designers such as Hervé Van Der Straeten and Hubert Le Gall, highly respected for their sculptural approach to furniture and jewelry. When in 2003, Erwan opened his own workshop in Paris, he was already an established designer renewed for his artistic and fresh approach to craftsmanship. In recent time he moved his Atelier in Pantin, a picturesque river town, northeast of Paris.

Inspiration
From his Atelier in Pantin (Paris), Erwan Boulloud forges unique objects breathing fine art and meticulous crafting techniques. A savoir-faire that he developed along his apprentice time working in iconic museums and design studios, blending heritage and innovation. Every piece of Erwan Boulloud collection resonates as a museum creation, where the material craft is glorified by detailing the matter with marquetry, and scenographic finishing. Know-how on materials properties and heritage is the prelude to each creation, allowing the sculpture to forge unique objects that balance strong core with sophisticated finishing. Furniture, luminaires, and sculptures that are meant to shine in their own light, transcending the stiffness of the original material.
“Beyond its aesthetic success, I feel a work of art is successful in its ability to generate a lineage, this is to me the testimony of its profundity,” says Erwan Boulloud.

Style
Erwan Boulloud workshop reflects the experimental approach of the designer. A former warehouse now converted into an open-space studio with wools covered with street-style graffiti, the Atelier encapsulate the essence of Erwan Boulloud work. Furniture, mirrors, cabinets and everyday objects are modelled into sculptural elements with a functional core. By combining metal, wood, concrete, glass with minerals or vegetables Erwan Boulloud pushes the limit of the manufacturing possibilities.
Every object reveals the profundity and symbolic feature of the material, which can be raw, burnt, polished, decorticated, or reconstituted under the savvy touch of Erwan Boulloud. In a constant search for new design, manufacturing and finishing processes, the Atelier Erwan Boulloud believe in generating lineage in the art of high craft design, allowing French know-how to evolve with its time, without forgetting its roots.
Uniqueness
Each creation represents the snapshot of a history in ongoing evolution bearing the imprint of a perceptible movement. Works succeed each other, creating lines, junctions, crossings, disappearances, and mutations. Each piece is initially thought as sculpture, evolves into utilitarian objects during the crafting.
The harmony resulting from mixing opposite materials give to each piece a surprisingly living soul, where steep angles become silhouettes bringing movements and curves to hard surfaces. Erwan Boulloud creations are all hand made in the artist’s workshop, as unique pieces or few numbered copies. They can also be declined and realised, only on order, with options and different dimensions.
