Born and brought up in Provence, in the south of France, Laura Demichelis
trained at the École Boulle in Paris where she obtained her Diploma in Arts & Crafts, specialising in the bronze craft.
Her Diploma piece, the ‘Dérive’, won her the top national prize in the competition which the Riboud Foundation sponsors at the National Institute of Arts & Crafts (Inma); and the piece has been frequently exhibited ever since.

After several years’ work in the designer Hervé Van Der Straeten’s Parisian atelier, Laura spent a year in Asia, most notably Vietnam, studying ancient bronze-casting techniques.
Her creativity was hugely enriched by her familiarisation with precious traditional know-how.

In 2014, Laura settled in Berlin, where she worked alongside the designer Stefan Leo.
Over the course of the next 2 years she was introduced to different techniques and new materials, like leather, parchment, glass, further adding to her design repertoire.
In 2016, she set up her own Atelier Demichelis, where she has been designing and crafting contemporary lighting and other furnishings & fittings in bronze.
Laura draws her inspiration from her travels, but also from nature and daily life — so long as there is a story to tell.
All her creations are hand-made and signed, either one-off or in a short numbered series.
