With a comprehensive portfolio and a creative vision that unites functionality and sophistication, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho assumes the leadership of her homonymous atelier creating tailor-made projects in the fields of architecture, interior design and furniture design. The common thread that defines all projects with CJC signature lies in the balance between clean lines and an intelligent game of volumes, materials and textures – An eclectic and contemporary approach that blends sobriety and comfort in harmony.
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho base her inspiration on her roots and her life in continuous movement. This mixology of cultures is easily recognizable in her work, and her designs.
“Everything is a source of inspiration. I give great importance to details. This is what makes a job or idea unique. Any kind of feeling or emotion can feed my inspiration. A song, a movie, a sunset, the rain, a memory, a place or city. But also my background is key for this vision, the place where I grow up (Africa) and all the cultures that have the honor to meet, lived and explore make my work richer.”
The exceptional quality of the Designer’s work and her timeless style have been internationally recognised through several awards: She received the awards for Best Hotel Interior for Europe and Best Hotel Interior for Portugal by the European Hotel Awards, for the Altis Prime Hotel; and the Silver award by the International Design Awards (IDA), in the category of Conceptual Interior Design, for the project developed, but not implemented, for the Champalimaud Foundation.
Attracted by a clean aesthetic, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho plays with contrasting materials and textures. The same applies to her furniture collection where she mixes sophisticated materials like brass, marble, oak and lacquer to compose timeless designs that stand out on every space.
“I always try to find harmony in the mix of classic with contemporary pieces. I believe the most important thing is to find balance in these contrasts. My design aesthetic can be described as clean, contemporary and timeless with a luxurious but understated feel.”
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho colors palette is neutral based – “I am attracted to base colors like nude, gray, black, white, beige … but when it comes to designing a project, I also feel the need for contrast”.
